BES and the network has been
instrumental in the establish-
ment and support of Training &
Apprenticeships in Construction
(TrAC) which employs construction,
mechanical and electrical
apprentices and places them
within the East Sussex County
Council supply chain where
they get the work-based
training needed to complete an
apprenticeship. It provides an
ideal solution for those
contractors who want to
support apprenticeships and
the development of skills locally,
but who are not in a position
to provide 2-3 years employment
required by an apprentice finish
their training.

An important tool which
supports the local construction
sector is Build East Sussex
(BES), a network led by East
Sussex County Council
supporting the local construction
industry supply chain. The
portal provides a platform for
local businesses who want to
bid for work packages from
major contractors and the
county council.
Once registered, businesses of
all sizes can access details of
work opportunities online,
complete a common pre-
qualification questionnaire,
respond to pricing enquiries/
invitations to tender and receive
intelligent business support to
increase chances of winning work.
Around £140 million worth of
contracts have been awarded to
the BES framework contractors
over the last four years.
The BES network now has over
1,000 suppliers registered, has
advertised millions of pounds of
work to local suppliers, and
hosts a range of events which
have seen more than 1,500
delegates attend since its launch
in 2010.
