East Sussex County Council,
through a partnership with BT,
is building a multi-million pound
fibre network to improve
broadband speeds right
across the county through the
‘eSussex’ project.
Faster broadband makes it
possible to use a whole range
of leading-edge software and
applications from cloud computing
to data transfer to remote data
storage. It offers a wealth of
opportunities for ecommerce,
makes connecting with customers
and colleagues all over the world
easier, and cuts costs by sup-
porting more efficient working.
Residents will be able to enjoy a
fast and consistent service at
home anytime, no matter how
many people are online at once.
Faster broadband will empower
local communities to thrive with
improved access to services,
jobs and learning opportunities.
It also increases the reach
of local businesses into these
local communities.
The £34 million project, led by
East Sussex County Council in
partnership with Government
and BT, is one of the highest
economic development priorities
for the county. It is expected to
be complete by 2016.
Work is already underway in
many areas of the county -
engineers will be laying about
1,000 kilometres of fibre across
the county and installing over
400 new fibre broadband
cabinets and other structures.
