Our Buy With Confidence –
Trading Standards approved
scheme promotes the good
businesses based within our
county and is one of the largest
Trading Standards approval
schemes in the UK with
approximately 400 members,
covering a diverse range
of services.
The scheme also provides sup-
port to customers and their busi-
nesses in the event of a com-
plaint arising and operates a suc-
cessful mediation service as an
alternative to court action.

Support With Confidence
In partnership with Adult Social
Care, we run a Support With
Confidence scheme, which
provides an approval framework
for providers of care and support.
The scheme is for adults
requiring care and support,
whether they are financed
directly by Adult Social Care or
pay for their care privately. The
scheme provides a wide range
of care and support services
and welcomes applications
from services which help
people live independently in their
own homes.
Support With Confidence
provides the local community
with a list of providers that
have been vetted and approved
on grounds of quality, safety
and training.

in East Sussex lies in supporting
local businesses. Trading
Standards helps support local
enterprises by ensuring that they
comply with the legislative
framework of fair trade, and
offering advice and information
to help them develop. Creating a
safe and fair trading environment
raises standards locally, which
is good news for businesses,
residents and visitors to our area.
In 2013/14 we supported over
1,300 businesses though advice
and education and carried out
582 premises visits. We ensure
best use of resources by only
inspecting where there is a
need to do so.
Our legislation covers animal
health; product safety;
fair trading; civil enforcement;
food safety; counterfeit goods;
weights and measures; underage
sales; mass marketing fraud;
illegal money lending and
licencing poisons; explosives
and animal movements.
We provide training to local
businesses on areas of
legislative compliance, delivered
through our Buy With Confidence
and Support With Confidence
schemes, as well as providing
bespoke training to businesses
on request.
